Go Hug a Tree — It’s Arbor Day!
I was just sittin’ here enjoyin’ the company. Plants got a lot to say, if you take the time to listen. -Eeyore

A tree says: My strength is trust. I know nothing about my fathers, I know nothing about the thousand children that every year spring out of me. I live out the secret of my seed to the very end, and I care for nothing else. I trust that God is in me. I trust that my labor is holy. Out of this trust I live. -Hermann Hesse

Trees are the earth’s endless effort to speak to the listening heaven. -Rabindranath Tagore

Look at the trees, look at the birds, look at the clouds, look at the stars… and if you have eyes you will be able to see that the whole existence is joyful. Everything is simply happy. Trees are happy for no reason; they are not going to become prime ministers or presidents and they are not going to become rich and they will never have any bank balance. Look at the flowers — for no reason. It is simply unbelievable how happy flowers are. -Osho
It’s Arbor Day! And despite a wee bit of life’s chaos, I couldn’t neglect our most amazing, most magnificent creatures. As caretakers of this beautiful sphere, it remains our utmost responsibility to honor, safeguard, and protect these living entities. Upwards of 5,000 years old, they’ve borne witness to the rise and fall of entire civilizations. R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Plant a tree…Recycle…Go paperless…Follow conservation groups diligently working to protect these lovely, ancient living citadels. Or just show one some love and respect, and give it a nice hugggggg. 🙂
Yeah! I love your pictures! 🙂 Thanks for participating!
Happy Arbor Day to you!
From Lincoln, Nebraska 🙂
Peace and luvz, Uncle Tree ▲
THANKS so much! How could I ever neglect the lovely trees? 🙂
With love from the ‘glades!
I love everything that include in the word nature … And what would our planet Earth be without trees ? … Nothing ! … So i hope that we all, regardless where we live in this world … Will continue to hug our trees …
And thus save trees from senseless deforestation that is going on in so many places in our world … // Maria 🙂
So very well said! We would be nothing without these lovely, magnificent trees.
Whenever I think we, as a species, have learned that we can’t wipe them out with deforestation as we have in the past… I hear stories saying otherwise. Here’s to continuing to love and hug and do ALL we can to protect them, regardless! XO!!
Reblogged this on Spirit In Action and commented:
Beautiful! Thank you!
Thanks so very much!!! 🙂
I remember that last photo – the heart of the tree. All of your photos are marvelous, and the quotations are sweet and a bit stinging, all at once. We have responsibilities to our world. The old-fashioned word is stewardship, but whatever words we use, we need to do what we can to raise awareness about the importance of our trees.
I confess – I forgot until today arrived. Arbor Day used to be a huge deal – we need to make it so, again. I already have a note on my calendar for next year – about two weeks before the day, so I can post something!
Ah, believe me…. If I didn’t have it on my calendar, I would have forgotten. My brain’s a sieve, otherwise!
Beautiful words. What we’re doing to these amazing and ancient creations for the most part, is appalling. I like to think there’s a changing, upward trend, but there’s much to do — it’s so easy though. Honestly.
Love it.
Hee, thanks so much! 🙂
Smiles
Good idea, I think I will!
Heh heh, yay! I’m usually hugging a tree on any given hike, though. 🙂
Love both your post and your photos, CC. I am reminded that as a child, we had a chance to plant a tree in Israel as they were cultivating a portion of the desert. I found my certificate for trees there just recently. I also loved walking in woods in New England. Cypress are so, cool, though!
How WONDERFUL! What an experience…. Plant them, everywhere! Yay!
Cypress are among my favorite, for sure — they’re just so unique. But walking among the oaks and pines? Just lovely.
Hug one for me too~
ALWAYS! Smooches to you and your trees, too. 🙂
A lovely post….wonderful text and images…and the important emphasis on our role to utilize and preserve wisely!
Thank you so much!!! 🙂 Always my favorites, always…. How have you been? I’ll be emailing you soon — I had a bit of an episode with my computer, and am playing some serious catch-up, wink!
I never get tired of trees. Loved the cartoon.
Ditto! It’s hard to tire of these amazing creations. My camera is usually pointed up. 🙂
That cartoon cracks me up every time I see it….
Nice trees!
We have amazing trees down here…. Such a variety. 🙂
These are excellent!
Thanks so very much! 🙂
Oh my – how could I have forgotten? Well, this year I’ve planted a red bud and a pecan. Still not done, though….so many trees, so little time! xo
I wish there was a *love* button! Fantastic post and photos and super-inspiring quotes. Especially love the OSHO quote…one of my favorite teachers.
Aw, thank you so very much!! All of these words, they’re just so beautiful, aren’t they? I’ve had them stored up for some time… And of course, trees remain my favorite creatures. Obviously for many, they are!
Your post, your pictures and the quotes are wonderful. A world without trees would be bleak and barren indeed. I was at a wedding once where saplings were given as gifts to the attendees with a note of hope that it would be planted and would grow just as the newly weds’ union would flourish. What a wonderful idea!
Thank you SO very much! I can’t fathom a world without these magnificent creatures…. You’re right. What we’re doing to them is appalling.
WOW — What a WONDERFUL concept! I’ve never, ever, heard or seen this in action! I’m going to spread this idea, and most likely use it myself. I can’t thank you enough!!! 🙂
Fantastic post and I agree 100%!!! I just love trees, clouds and everything nature!! Thank you very much for the post! Mari
THANK you so very much!
Trees, always my favorites…. Always! 🙂

Wow – what amazing shots.
Thanks so much!
Trees, always my favorites. 🙂
Enjoyed the quote from Hesse and of course your skill with the camera. An orange tree was planted my place of work this Arbor Day. Peace, Dohn
Thanks so very much! (And, I just adore Hesse and his way with words.)
How wonderful…. I can remember when planting a tree on Arbor Day was a normality. Even in our temporary location now, I’m planting. 🙂
That cartoon with the alien hugging the tree causes me to chuckle. Smart alien!
Isn’t that cartoon marvelous?? It makes me crack up every time I see it…. Ditto, smart alien! 🙂
(p.s. STACY, I’m so sorry – I accidentally deleted your comment!)
Honestly…. If I don’t have things on my CALENDAR, they would go right out of my brain! 🙂
Hoorah for your! A pecan tree? I can’t wait till we settle in a permanent place — we’re in transit now, but of course I’m still planting, heh!
