Happy Anniversary, Earth!
UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not. —The Lorax, by Dr. Seuss
Happy Earth Day, to this one and only, beautiful but non-disposable blue sphere of ours! This year’s theme is climate change: the faces of climate change and its impact on the planet.
Click here for a quick read on the Top 10 Ways to Make Every Day Earth Day — from using less water, to cutting back on printing, to curbing the bottled-water addiction. Incredibly easy tips for the average human! And if you’re up for a more intense viewing on the subject of climate change, here’s a TEDtalks clip featuring Allan Savory: “How to green the world’s deserts and reverse climate change.” It’s long, but completely fascinating.
Happy Earth Day to you! Let’s hope everyone does their part to ensure the health of this beautiful planet.
Ditto, Happy Earth Day from across the pond! 🙂
Here’s to bringing as much attention and love as possible to this beautiful planet of ours….
…. Hey! I’m as old as dirt – does that mean it’s me birthday, too? Here are a few additional “green” tips to add to the top ten: a) Avoid “drink boxes” – those cardboard and foil drink packs that come with a built-in straw. Those packages simply cannot be recycled. b) If you change your vehicle’s oil yourself, take the old oil to ANY auto repair shop for free recycling. It IS the law. c) If you have to wait at a railroad crossing, drawbridge, etc.turn off you motor. d) Use ceiling fans! e) If you have an older 7-gallon toilet, put a brick in the tank. That will save a half gallon of water per flush, with no -er- loss of function. f) Don’t cut your lawn so short! Longer grass protects itself from drying out, from the heat, and from weeds. That means you need less fertilizer for growth, less water for irrigation, and less toxic chemicals for weed control — and your lawn will look MUCH better! g) Buy a horse, and use it to tow your SUV around town. Sound ridiculous? So is your SUV – get rid of it! h) Send me money – scientists aren’t sure that will help any – but it couldn’t hurt!
Hah, great tips! There’s so much to add for sure… The basics for the average person are here, but Americans can do much more. Recycle everything. DON’T use fertilizer! PLANT NATIVE. Do we honestly need to be driving in giant vehicles named after a Spanish Fleet (Armada)? Or ironically, a magnificent tree (Sequoia)? No. Sigh.
Happy Earth Day!
Thank you for an informative and important post.
As the great cartoonist, Walt Kelly, depicted on an Earth Day poster for 1970, as his character, Pogo, stood at the edge of a forest full of garbage: “We have met the enemy, and he is us!”
Each one of us makes a difference, whether we do anything….or not.
Ah yes, I know this now-famous cartoon! Love it.
It really is OUR responsibility. And it doesn’t take much, honestly. There’s room to be very proactive, of course…. 🙂 But there’s so much that can be done to improve the health of this beautiful planet of ours. SO much.
Everyday is Earth Day
Absolutely. A bit unfortunate we must highlight such a day, but at least we’re doing that, to bring awareness to the plight.
