Gabriel, one of the 70+ kitties we’ve TNR’d! We found this lucky guy a loving home, as he was very obviously abandoned. Happy story!

Each day, we feed LOTS of stray, feral, and abandoned kitties throughout our area — regardless of weather. These lucky guys live in our back area, and reap the benefits of being massively spoiled.

Many people don’t know what a clipped ear signifies — this is a TNR’d cat, one who has been spayed / neutered, and returned to his or her outside home. Here is Charlie — a former feral who found his home with us, INSIDE, after being TNR’d.

Another former feral / TNR rescue, now inside — Itty Bitty! (Note the tipped ear.) We have 5 inside guys, and all are former ferals, adopted at older ages. (Itty ran inside at 6 months, and never left!) It’s far from impossible, despite the old adage. We’re antiquarian booksellers — so here they’re doing their absolute best to help.
One of my furbabies, Abby, has a tipped ear. She loves people and loves the indoor life. She’s snoring on the back of the sofa now.
Yay! ❤️ It warms my heart when I hear these guys having homes, so loved. I cringe when I hear the “ya can’t bring them in past x weeks-old” rule. If they want to be inside – it will work, and they’ll be loving and gentle and ALL that more appreciative… and in homes with other critters!
Sorry didn’t even read yet!! So happy to see Serenity Spell pop up again!! That egret image you found is darned cool. I have relatives in Georgia who are involved with rescue cats too!!
It’s SO WONDERFUL to see you! I’m sorry I’ve been out of the loop… To say it’s been a bit of a whirlwind is an understatement, heh! 😳 I’m going to try my absolute best to slowly get back to this amazing forum. Sloowwwwwly! But for now… I TRULY hope that you’ve been well. Soon I’ll be able to make visits to my favorite places (you!) and post (gasp!).
Life is full of changes and blog posting can reflect that when a person is writing and when they are not!! Hope you are having lots of fun!!
Verrrry true. I need to swing by your blog later this week and send you a note!
Hey! Long time no hear! Great post and a very important subject. My daughter’s shelter-adopted dog is now 15 years old – best.pet.ever!!
My Son’s family has 7 adopted cats.
Hope you have been well and I look forward to more posts from Serenity Spell!
Thanks so very much! It’s been a bit of a whirlwind… 😳 BUT I truly hope to stick to, and return to, this wonderful forum. I miss it! I’ve been trying be best to keep up.
How WONDERFUL! I love hearing stories like this… My brother has older shelter dogs as well (the most amazing, LOVING angels I’ve ever known!!) — and my mother has rescued racehorses. They’re her babies. So, we’re quite nearly covered. But your son’s family beats us (just counting the INSIDE guys, that is)! 7! But… We’re still in a small space, so just wait till we buy a home. Heh.
How nice to find a post from you! What a great post! These kitties have warmed my heart as I recently had to put my last one down – they have all been strays. It is amazing how quickly homeless cats can adapt to being pampered indoor kitties. Absolutely lovely at in “Citrus Supreme.” Best regards to you!
Thanks so very much! It’s been a bit of a whirlwind… 😳 I’m so sorry for your loss — it never, ever gets easier; and never, ever feels as though your heart isn’t being ripped out of your body. But SO many blessings to you for helping these guys! It’s amazing, isn’t it, how quickly they become incredibly spoiled. Even our outside guys (TNR’d ferals) turn their noses up at certain wet foods now. Sigh.
Sweet
❤️🌟❤️!
How nice to see you, and what a lovely post. My sweet Dixie Rose died two weeks ago at the age of 18. She went from being outdoor to indoor at four months when I got her, and she adapted beautifully. It’s so good to know that there are organizations working on behalf of these wonderful creatures — not to mention individuals like you.
It’s so wonderful to see you! I know your Dixie Rose well — and I’m so incredibly sorry for your loss. It never, ever gets easier; and never, ever feels as though your heart isn’t being ripped out of your body. She had an amazing, blessed home with you — she found you! ❤️ We’re fortunate to bring these guys to an amazing rescue group here that has funding through Best Friends… If it weren’t for them, we’d be paying $100+ per kitty for this work (and at 70+, that adds up quickly — IF nothing is wrong with them). There are people in states who ARE paying this kind of money (we need to CHANGE THESE LAWS!), so HUGE love and kudos to them for keeping up the good fight/work in helping the abandoned and homeless animals!
So so so so so SOOOOO happy to see your wonderful blog!!!✨❤️✨💚✨❤️✨💚✨ Love all the activities and events-sounds like a huge event with lots of really cool and practical help for all critters-including the human kinds. And your pictures of your guys-AWESOME!! I swear you could make good $$ being a pet photographer!! You know people love the furry and feathered friends and we all love to have their pictures…hint hint!!!

Hahahah! You’re so funny… ❤️ That picture of Charlie came out beautifully – purely by chance! I was trying to take a picture of a book we were selling, and he was hovering. So he got the benefit of the lighting. But he’s a stunner, anyways, hee! The people at the state-run Week for the Animals are wonderful though, to highlight these AMAZING organizations and bring attention to the critters in need. ALWAYS.
An important post Fey Girl. And good for you and your obviously loved cats. “We’re antiquarian booksellers…” I have a strong feeling that all good book stores should have a cat. 🙂 –Curt
Always! You’re absolutely right! ❤️ Think Mark Twain, Hemingway, Edward Gorey and so many other authors and their love of the feline. We’ve haunted used bookstores, and I just adore seeing the rescued kitties that the wonderful people have as THEIR helpers. But in my family, we have dogs, cats, horses, even rescued ferrets – no species are ignored!
Wow, sounds a bit like a zoo! 🙂
I love your feral cat ministry! They need love and care. I’ve had two rehabilitated feral through the years. There may be room for more if we move to a less urban area in the future.
Hee, I love that – “feral cat ministry”! They’re our babies, those inside and outside. We try to do ALL we can for the outside guys, as well. And I’m WITH you! We’re currently in an urban area now, too – but plan to move eventually. Some of the outside guys may come with us (they’re just so dependent on hoomans)… But I can see our number growing, regardless. They find their ways to us, don’t they?
They can feel the love.
I have rescue cats. My gray was found eating chicken bones as a kitten in an alley. I have to clear all my plates after we eat chicken since he tries to steal the bones-lol. I got him back in 2005, so he does not do it as often now that he lives with us and a senior. Well, I don’t eat much chicken now that my kids are moved out:-) He is a sweetie. How neat they found homes. I never had cats as a kid but sure love them now:-) NIce post-visiting sites I’ve missed reading the past few months. Yours is one I enjoy reading
Hahah! It’s amazing how they keep their old habits, from their scavenging days. Poor guys! How wonderful that you found a home for this guy, though. WONDERFUL! ❤️ I’m always in awe of all their distinct personalities, to this day. Thank you so much for your kind words! Now if I can find a bit more time to add a post here and there, hee!!
I need to post too!Just get busy outside..lol. I don’t like being at my computer in the summer. My garden calls me outside!
